Today as I'm driving down the highway i do what i usually do and look at other cars. As i do this I'm thinking of how amazing it will be to see Eclipse. The first car i see is a deep blue car brand: ECLIPSE....ironic. MLIT
That happened to my friend and me the other day! I was like "holy crap! that car is an Eclipse!" Lol.
Please look up the word "irony" becuz that is not ironic. at all.
Dear luna.lovegood.loves.you, the fact that she was thinking about an Eclipse at the same moment she saw one on the road can be considered ironic. Thanks, WTF.
No, that's a "coincidence." "Coincidence" =/= "irony". If you were thinking you couldn't wait to see Eclipse, then got run over by one, that would be ironic. Oh, and I really doubt the "car brand" is deep blue...
@oldschoolblues: First off, I don't think she meant the car brand was blue. I think she meant "...deep blue car, brand: Eclipse." It wasn't a huge error and it was easy to see what she meant, so cut her some slack. You all are so eager to make Twihards look stupid, you don't stop to think. Secondly, her use of "ironic" is unusual but not incorrect. Under the term "ironically," the Oxford (yes THE Oxford where much of HP was filmed) English Dictionary writes, "In weakened, typically parenthetical use, often opening a sentence: paradoxically, curiously, unexpectedly, coincidentally." So "coincidence" = "irony" sometimes.
So, why she is looking up "ironic," you can join her and learn how to spell "because"...
Wow, yet an other 'sparkling' (heh, gettit' because the faggot sparkles in the sun?) show of the average twishite readers intelligence level. Buy a dictionary and look up irony you tool.
I guess since she is still being told to grab a dictionary nobody has bothered to read behindthesegoldeneyes' explanation. She did look it up, and it makes sense. Nice try. So, how about instead of making yourselves look less intelligent than you actually are, go do something worth your while.
My friend has an Eclipse and it always makes me think about how much I can't wait for the movie!!! I can't wait to see Seth in it, of course. Hehe! Go team seth!
Why, yes I did happen to read behindthesegoldeneyes' explanation. I still feel like she should buy a dictionary, as it would do everyone good if we all improved our vocabularies. Also just because it was technically correct, doesn't mean the OP knew this, as if she did it is more probable that she would say 'coincidence' rather than 'irony'. And as my final point, silly twihard... don't you know that I, as a troll, have nothing better to do with my time?
I love Seth! Favorite wolf....hands down! Jacob can suck it....haha jk, kinda.
Sure, we can all stand to improve our vocabularies, I don't disagree there. But you can't say the OP didn't know, just like I can't say she knew for sure either. Point is, there was no need to tell her to pick up a dictionary like she used every word wrong in her damn sentence. It seems you guys are just running out of things talk about here so you turn to nit picking words....have fun troll.
Not ironic, fuckface. It's coincidental and is only very loosely related to Twilight. Good job, you've managed to make Twilight fans seem even dumber than they already are.
Wow, @OliviaD- some just can't manage to read...uh *cough* above *cough* Or maybe it's more like they just choose to ignore it, and keep pretending we're really dumb. Ignorance is bliss i guess.
HarryPotterWho, of course they don't read what we say when it means we're right and they can't make fun of us. Exactly like you said. It makes them happy when they think we're dumb...I'm assuming because it's the only way they feel smart. Otherwise, why would they be grasping at the need to feel superior to us so much, right?
WIPE YOUR TEARS, WITH SAND PAPER!
Hmm, this is getting quite interesting. I love how the twihards have decided to grow both spines and brains and are attempting to use them to fight back. It makes things much more entertaining.
attempting? I think it's more than that...*loooks through comments* yup definitely more than that.
Read a proper book. That is not irony, it's called a coincidence.
Hahah maybe the car was Alice!! LoL!! And it really makes me mad how people have nothing better to do than read to much into what people say. Cause chances are, no, not chances are: YOU AREN'T PERFECT EITHER. so stfu to all the people who do that, KNOCK IT OFF. @MyBellyJigglesForThee, I HAVE 3 A'S 3 B'S AND 2 C'S SO CALL ME STUPID BUT THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE DUMB.
irony 1 |ˈīrənē; ˈiərnē|
noun ( pl. -nies)
the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect : “Don't go overboard with the gratitude,” he rejoined with heavy irony. See note at wit .
• a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result : [with clause ] the irony is that I thought he could help me.
• (also dramatic or tragic irony) a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character.
ORIGIN early 16th cent.(also denoting Socratic irony): via Latin from Greek eirōneia ‘simulated ignorance,’ from eirōn ‘dissembler.’
irony 2 |ˈīərnē|
of or like iron : an irony gray color.
1 that note of irony in her voice sarcasm, causticity, cynicism, mockery, satire, sardonicism. See note at wit . antonym sincerity.
2 the irony of the situation paradox, incongruity, incongruousness. antonym logic.
@ twilightsucksalot; yes, it is irony.
kiki: If that's your idea of fighting back, you twihards need to brush up on your arguing skills. Mostly, it's just you lot trying to ignore us because in reality, the smaller, saner part of your brain knows we're right.
HarryPotterWHO: If ignorance is bliss, you must lead a very blissful life indeed.
twilightluva4EVA: Don't wave around your credentials. As this is the internet, there's no proof that you actually have the grades you claim to have. And no matter how many times you post the definition of irony, this will never be ironic. It has already been shown to be a coincidence, NOT irony.
@bookwork13 - Maybe it seems like us ignoring you because there are a lot more of you than there are of us. And most likely, some of the fans on this site want to ignore you, not because we "know you're right" because in most cases you're not, but because they want to be on this site for the purpose this site was meant to have - to just talk about Twilight and have fun...not fight to prove your prejudices about us wrong.
bookwork13- Ignoring? It's more like your comments are so ridiculous there is no point in saying anything to most of them, it's more of a joke. And plus, I don't really have the time to say something to everyone here who insults me, I have a little something called a life. So, ya I guess in a way that is ignoring, just how an older sibling ignores the younger annoying one. And your right about what? That Harry Potter is better than Twilight? Well, sure that's your opinion and it's right for you, not for me.
Um kiki? Hate to break it to you, but speciffically not replying to something is ignoring it. And I just love how all of you twitards make such a big deal over having "a little something called a life." I mean, obviously you have a life, or you would be a corpse like your dear Eddiekins.
Obviously we have a life, bookwork13? Then why does everyone keep telling us to get one? You couldn't figure out that maybe that's WHY we keep making a big deal about it? And I believe kiki DID say she was ignoring you. Did you read the whole comment? Stop trying to get the last word when you really have nothing left to say.
Um bookwork_13? Hate to break it to you, but I did say I ignored it. In my opinion ignoring the crude, pointless comments made by ignorant, close minded people is just the best way to handle it. I'm all for having a respectful debate, but with most of you here that seems impossible, so why push it. Asking for respect here is like asking a cat to poop goat cheese. I didn't make a big deal over having a life, besides mentioning that I have one, because apparently so many of you think we don't, I felt the need to say I did, sue me.
bookwork_13- and I love how all you Potterheads like to point out that you think we have no life. I guess I'll just go read Harry Potter because he can magically give me a great, new life!! YAY! I'm so excited, I looooooove Harry!!!! He's so smart and can do magic and can fight just about anything!!! How I do wish to be like him!!! I'd rather poke my eyes out than be an egotistical, jackass, aka Potterheads.
Excuse me TeamRobsten, if you're suggesting that we potterheads need to get a life, this is what i say to that: we dont need lives, we have horcruxes.
ohmygod! stop everything thrs a car passing by with the name eclipse!
Robsten: Erm, y'all are the ones who bring the whole "i have a life, you don't troll!" thing into this sooooo yeah. And egotistical? Really?
omg_its_cedric: humor!! yet another thing the twitards lack.
@bookwork_13- Do Not Even Go There. I don't know if you read comments made by others, but almost every other comment made by haters sound something like, "Go pick up a real book and get a life," or "GO DIE," etc. So I believe that people like you are the ones who bring in the "get a life" idea. And ya I do agree that if you are a hater on this site, then you are in need of a reality check on what a life is. Because a good life does not consist of condescending remarks and being just plain rude to other human beings.
@omg_its_cedric- I wasn't suggesting anthing actually, at least in the comment you are talking about. I was only mocking the countless comments made by the likes of you that tell me to "get a life and read a real book like Harry Potter."
Whaaaaa??? Is she serious? Twilight fans did not bring the question of having a life into this AT ALL. All you have to do is go through some of the comments to figure that out. We are constantly being told to Get a life, and frankly, it's getting old.
hahahha. reading through ALL these comments is seriously entertaining. It's like watching intense debate(:
@behindthesegoldeneyes and everyone who is stupid enough to interpret it the way she did. Did you even read that entry!? It means that if you want to call something ironic, but with a weaker word you use one of those words, it's not bidirectional! Ironic things are "paradoxical", "curious", "unexpected" and "coincidental", but those things are not all ironic, just in the same way that all dogs are animals, but not all animals are dogs. I don't think your stupidity has anything to do with twilight if that's any consolation though, most people use big words they don't understand no matter what they read.
Here's a lesson in irony anyway. Irony works in opposites. It exists when something is expected to happen, foreshadowed to happen or if somebody tries to make something happen and the opposite occurs in the end. Thinking of Eclipse foreshadows seeing an Eclipse, so the most ironic thing about this entire thread is the fact that it would have been more ironic if she did not see an eclipse and continued along her day.
Incidentally, you keep misspelling "twitard":P
@dia=twilightluva4EVA That definition doesn't even mention situational irony, which is what her use was. For god's sake, if people would just admit to not knowing what the word means instead of trying to twist the dictionary entries to their uses of it then they's look a hell of a lot smarter, both now and in the future.
Heh, I meant "they'd". Now THAT'S ironic!
first of all, Eclipse isn't a "brand." second, they've been around a lot longer than your stupid books.
In my school, you'll learn the proper definition of words.
Recruiting new students for Hogwarts.
wHY lOVE A MOVIE OVER TWO DICKLESS BITCH FAGS????? I NEED ANSWERZ, OTHERWISE MY MIND WILL IMPLODE WITH CONFUSION.
Your misunderstanding of the word "irony" makes me lose a little more hope in human kind. How about LISTENING in your English class instead of just sitting around and reading Twilight. YOU JUST MAY LEARN SOMETHING.
Ha! That is ironic! That you AND the guy in that car are both MORONS.
You know what's ironic? Harry Potter fans who hate Twilight but hang out on a Twilight fansite all day...
@EdwardBellaLove- HAHA haha ya ironic...or is just plain stupidity??
*high fives EdwardBellaLove* WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN!!!!!! EPIC WIN
Yes, that is ironic. But pointless.
OK, in response to some earlier comments, why don't we stop with the 'get a life thing' - because both groups obviously don't have lives - and start a reasonable debate? Start by telling us Potterheads exactly WHAT you like about Twilight.
I feel I should tell you, Eclipse is a model of car, not a brand...
ok, @frumpybut...- I like the love story between Edward and Bella. I'm absolutley facinated with all the Cullen characters and their backgrounds. I loved the feeling I got when reading the series for the first time...it was so intense and I had never been into a series so deeply before. I love how the wolfs played a big part from Eclipse on, I love how tortured Jacob was when he was in love with Bella. (esp. in BD), I love how I can name every little thing I love about it, but there is something else that just can't be explained that makes it become a part of you...and I love how I've learned I'm not the only one who feels like that. - Now, both groups don't obviously have lives. We have lives, and you guys know that. Harry Potter fans have lives Twilight fans have lives.....it's the Harry Potter fans that are on this website that I worry about and vice versa...if there were Twilight fans on average wizard I would be worried about them too. This website is not the place for a debate.
I'd just like to say that the "coincidental" definition of "ironic" in the dictionary is only there because stupid bastards couldn't comprehend the actual and much more interesting definition SO consistently that the dictionary-makers went "oh bugger it, let's put that in" and sighed wearily. That's how etymology works; it twists and changes with how people say things, changing contexts, views on appropriate use, and -notably- the persistent mistakes people make.
...How is this irony/coincidence thing still going on? I think the point has been made. The two words are similar in meaning, but not the same. It's a mistake...an easy one to make, that clearly many people do if BlibberingHumdinger is right. Everyone makes mistakes. If your point of being on this website is to point out grammar errors to make yourself feel smarter, then you don't belong on here. @frumpy, I agree with WolfChick, this isn't the place for a debate. If you want something like that, go to twilightdoesnotsuck.com. They're there to share their views on why they love Twilight and why they disagree with people like the haters on this site who say people who like Twilight are stupid and Edward is abusive, etc. This website is for the fans just to enjoy the series and chat with other people who like it. You don't belong here.
^Seriously! coincidence...ironic....coincidence...ironic, who really cares anyway. This isn't english class and we all make mistakes sometimes. Just the other day I tried to put the milk in the microwave (not to mention I was going on 3 hours of sleep). @Shana- Wow, I checked out that site...oh btw, it's www.twilightdoesnotsuck.blogspot.com, I found out after searching for it. Anyway, my point, that is a great place to voice OPINIONS unlike this website. Heck, she even asks for Harry Potter fans to comment on one of the blogs.
TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! TWILIGHT SUX! VAMPIRES DONT SPARKLE. THE END
LOL, oh Kelsey...that cracks me up. I totally do shit like that all the time when I'm sleep deprived too. Hahahah! And you're right about that twilightdoesnotsuck place. That's much more the place for debate. And side note...speaking of Eclipse. Everyone see the new trailer?? Ahhh! It makes me so excited for the movie. I LOVE how the fight scene looks.
too bad the brand isn't ECLIPSE- its a freaking model..
That's not irony you fucking retarded bitch. That's a coincidence. Go fucking beat the shit out of yourself with a dictionary.
Please read previous comments before making a comment (*cough* #59 *cough*). That debate has been beaten up enough already.
Reading through these, especially @dia=twilightluva4eva, that is DEFINITELY not irony, nor does your definition prove it. So pathetic.
P.S. The words are not similar either, and should not be considered similar. I apologize for your lack of schooling.
fighting on the internet is like competing in the special olympics even if you win you are still a retard like twilight fans
ITS NOT IRONIC ! It's a coincedence . Go back to school .
*mumble* twitard .
@behindthesegoldeneyes I just want to say , the use of coincedentally was meant to be in the form of irony . Like , it would be a coincedence if that Eclipse ran you over , like oldschoolblues said . That would make it a coincedence that *that* car ran you over . It could've been any car or any other time but when you were thinking about the movie/book . It's ironic because it's like a paradox .
@behindthesegoldeneyes- No, irony and coincidence are not remotely the same, and if you all knew the actual definitions and studied it during school (instead of dreaming about fictional characters) you would know they are not easily confused by people who know what they are talking about. Irony is an unexpected twist in a plotline that is counterintuitive to what the rest of the story or arc of a story has been setting you up to believe. Example of irony- Gift of the Magi by O. Henry. Coincidence is usually when two or more things, people, ECT. that have some form of common ground come together under some circumstance. Unexpected, but certainly not counterintuitive. (By the way, the owner of this account has changed. I am a friend of the previous user of this account.)
the fact that there has been over 60 comments on this post & no one has yet to point out that cars do not have "brands" is insulting; make & model darling;
& the fact that an amazing car like an eclipse is being associated with this ridiculous obsession that teeny boppers have, makes me wanna get rid of mine; when someone can explain turbo, blow off valves, headers, & such, theenn maybe can they associate it with twilight;
Okay first of all that's not irony, that's a coincedence. Which has been mentioned many times already. Irony is expecting one thing, and the exact opposite happens. You should've learned this in basic 7th grade English. If you aren't actually in 7th grade, it should've been used around you enough for you to figure out what it means.
You guys are still ranting about irony vs. coincidence. Let it go already! Sheesh, not everyone is as oh-so-perfect with grammar as you guys imply that you are! Give it a break!
By the way, the brand of the car is Mitsubishi, Eclipse is the model.....
If you want to help out in the war vs. the sparklepyres with The Fifth Marauder and I, go to the top 100, 2nd one down.
Disregarding the whole catfight going on in the above comments, here's an idea for whoever posted this story: stop looking at other cars and focus on FUCKIN' DRIVING!
